The Future of Work: Hybrid and Remote Jobs in Cyprus
0

In recent years, especially during and after the pandemic, the need for remote and hybrid positions increased in Cyprus. Remote and hybrid working was really common in other countries, though now the need of working remotely has increased worldwide.
As a recruitment agency we noticed remote working becoming more popular in Cyprus. This blog post will explore the benefits of working from home (hybrid or remotely) and the advantages it provides to individuals in Cyprus and also the reasons many people desire this option.

The benefits of working from home

Remote jobs in Cyprus increased during the pandemic because of the need for social distancing. Although, working from home was already popular in other countries because of the other perks it provides. One of these benefits is practically, employees save time of their day but not going to the office. There is no need for them to spend two hours of their day just to get to work and off work. In Cyprus where distances are significantly shorter it may seem irrelevant, but being stuck in traffic can make a generally small distance seem endless.

Apart from saving time and money by not commuting to the workplace, working from home can raise productivity as it gives space to the individuals to focus on their important tasks and avoid any other distractions that they may face in their workspace. According to a study by Statista, 32% of the remote working participants stated that they feel more productive working from home.

It is important to mention that many people would like to work from home to stay closer to family members or household members. According to a recent study, Cypriots are the most family-oriented people in Europe, and they appreciate the time they spend with their family. This is a point extremely important for parents that like to be close to their children.

Remote working gives Cypriot individuals opportunities to work for international companies, and overall collaborate and create work with people around the globe. This is a huge advantage for individuals that work in sectors that are limited in Cyprus. Likewise, people from other countries can work remotely for a company in Cyprus, that would be extremely beneficial for companies in our country if they need a person in a sector that is difficult to find in Cyprus.

Also, this model of working gives the working professionals flexibility to adjust their work to their daily routine. Employees do not need to adjust to certain working hours or be at the office a certain amount of time.

Why remote working is avoided by many companies

It is very important to mention that many people did not need to work from home before the pandemic. Now, many professionals that worked remotely or hybrid during the pandemic went back to the office. Some employers and corporations do not like the idea of their employees/staff working remotely since they believe that their employees are more productive under their supervision. Since the individuals are out of sight, the only thing that can prove they are working effectively from home is the quality of their productivity and the completion of their tasks. Managers should measure professionals’ output and results and not focus on the time they spend in the office because this is not really a productivity indicator.

Another reason many organisations/companies do not support working from home is because they spend too much capital and time to establish their offices to have people not attending them. Moreover, keeping all the employees under one roof helps them to easily organise the team and establish a team culture. Many companies find it challenging to succeed in staying organised while working from home because that is not the traditional model of work we have used for decades.

These are some of the reasons that companies not only in Cyprus but also abroad, refrain from offering remote work to their employees. Of course, certain types of job positions, cannot be performed remotely because the employee must be present in person to perform the duties of the role.

Final thoughts

We are pleased to say that many companies in Cyprus have established working from home either completely remotely or in hybrid form. We are a recruitment agency facing the increase of the number of candidates desiring remote working opportunities every day.
During the pandemic, we experienced technological development with various software that supported working from home and proved that working remotely is not only possible but also efficient. In the future, we can anticipate the increase of remote working and hybrid job positions in Cyprus.
